Quantified self

The term Quantified Self was coined in 2007 by Wired journalists Gary Wolf and Kevin Kelly. Quantified Self is the process of analyzing change and setting goals for understanding and improving one’s self (self-knowledge through numbers). It is mainly about the recording and evaluation of the daily routine and their own condition with the help of devices (eg wearables), apps for smartphones or cloud services. The main motivations of the self-meter are on the one hand in self-optimization, in the enthusiasm for modern technology on the other based on medical reasons. In Europe, the first structures of the movement emerged from 2010 (source: time).

Examples of quantified self applications are: Smart Watch, Fitness Shirt or Smart Glass.
